The etiomology syntax comes from Greek, that is ‘sun’ meaning with and ‘tattein’ means to place. So, etymologically syntax means putting together words into groups of words or sentences.
Language elements included in syntax are phrases, clauses, and sentences.
I will explain about phrase.
PHRASES
A phrase is two or more words that do not contain the subject-verb pair necessary to form a clause.
- Noun Phrase
- Noun + Noun
Examples of Noun Phrase for the Noun + Noun category: newspaper, school bag, pizza box, air conditioner. Although it consists of two nouns, the object in question is only one noun. In the word pizza box, for example, the object in question is not pizza, but only the packaging box, which is the box. Therefore, the object referred to in the Noun Phrase Pizza Box is the Box.
- Noun + of + Noun
Examples of Noun Phrase for the Noun + of + Noun category: declaration of independence, city of angels, age of empire, and book of secrets. Example of declaration of independence. The word independence is only an adverb in the sentence. So, in the context of the declaration of independence, the object in question is the object called first, namely the declaration.
- Determiner + Adverb + Adjective + Noun
For this category, for example, an extremely dangerous sport, a totally gorgeous boy, a really nice car, etc. . For example in the word an extremely dangerous sport, we use dangerous adjectives to explain what type of sport is meant in the use of the noun. In addition, we use extremely adverbs to explain how dangerous the sport is.
- V3 + Noun (as Participle)
Examples are: hidden treasure, forbidden city, cooked meals, frozen dairy. You can use the V3 form that has functions as a participle form or explanatory information that uses relative pronouns such as who, which, that, whom in adjective clause is a passive sentence form. In hidden treasure words, for example The treasure which was hidden, but in order to become a whole subject, you can use hidden treasure words.

HapusBtw why did you choose syntax? why not semantic? Isn't semantics more interesting?
Please give the reason
I choose syntax because syntax learns correct grammar in English and makes it easy to compile a thesis:D why not semantics?
HapusBecause i don't like analyzing words and their meanings in semantics.
Oo, hahaa, we have different choices.
HapusSo what are the real benefits you feel after learning this?
The benefits are:
HapusCan distinguish phrases and clauses.
Can make words with correct grammar.
Although the material is quite a lot, in this syntax a lot of practice writing.
Hello Almira, when we use "can" and "could"? And please give me an example of both:)
BalasHapusHi siska :). your question I have answered the question from Sandra. please see the answer :)
HapusHi mira ..
BalasHapusPlease tell me about syntax according to 5 expert. Thanks
1. "Syntax is the study of the principles and processes by which sentences are constructed in particular languages. Syntactic investigation of a given language has as its goal the construction of a grammar that can be viewed as a device of some sort for producing the sentences of the language under analysis."(Noam Chomsky, 2002:11)
Hapus2. Matthew, dikutip oleh Van Vallin dan LaPolla (1997:1)
"The term ‘syntax’ is from the Ancient Greek syntaxis, a verbal noun which literally means “arrangement” or “setting out together”. Traditionally, it refers to the branch of grammar dealing with the ways in which words, with or without appropriate inflections, are arranged to show connections of meaning within the sentence."
3. Van Valin (2001:1)
"First and foremost, syntax deals with how sentences are constructed, and users of human language employ a striking variety of possible arrangements of the element in sentences."
4. Gleason (1955)
“Syntax maybe roughly defined as the principles of arrangement of the construction (word) into large constructions of various kinds.”
5. Robert (1964: 1)
"Syntax is the field of grammar which examines the relationship of words in sentences and the ways in which they are arranged to form a sentence."

HapusYes sure
Hapusplease give a strong reason, why do we have to understand phrase learning? why not just sentence?
BalasHapusbecause by studying phrases, we can understand the meaning of two or more language words that do not exceed the limits of the clause function.
HapusWhat the meaning of noun phrase? What is that? make it simpel
BalasHapusA noun phrase is a word or group of words that can function as the subject, the object, or the complement in a sentence. A noun phrase must always contain a noun or a pronoun.A noun phrase may consist of only one word. That word will be either a noun or a pronoun.
